Case Summary: International student Mr. Chen shipped his personal belongings from New York, USA back to Shanghai, China
Mr. Chen, a graduate of New York University, was preparing to return to China for career development. He packed up his belongings—all sorts of odds and ends—and after sorting everything out, found he had several large boxes. Checking them in as accompanied baggage would have been very expensive, so he decided to look for a moving company. When he first came to the United States, he had contacted Seapoe Relo to ship his belongings by sea from Shanghai to New York, so he again decided to entrust Seapoe Relo with shipping his belongings back to China.
After confirming his return date, Mr. Chen contacted Seapoe Relo to ask about the price and process for shipping his luggage from New York back to Shanghai. Based on the information Mr. Chen provided, Seapoe's customer service staff estimated a volume of about 2 cubic meters. Air freight would be relatively expensive, so they recommended LCL sea freight and provided Mr. Chen with a reasonable quote. Because Chinese customs inspects inbound personal effects rather strictly, the shipped items must not contain any prohibited goods. Among Mr. Chen's items were a large number of books, so he was advised to carefully select them and avoid any politically or religiously prohibited books. At the same time, Mr. Chen was asked to prepare all documents (a copy of his passport, packing list, copy of his school certificate, copy of his Visa entry record, etc.) to facilitate customs declaration and clearance.
After the carriage relationship was confirmed, Seapoe Relo sent the electronic contract to Mr. Chen and also mailed some packing materials to his residence in New York, USA for him to use in packing. Seapoe staff were then arranged to collect the goods on-site and deliver them to Seapoe's warehouse in the United States, followed by booking space and warehousing. Once the shipment arrived back in China, Seapoe arranged for customs clearance and delivery, bringing Mr. Chen's luggage and belongings to his home in Shanghai. The whole process took about 2 months.
