Points to Note When Relocating to the United States
(1) For immigrant relocations, U.S. Customs generally imposes no time limit on when goods must arrive; as long as your visa or green card meets the requirements, you can proceed with customs clearance for personal belongings.
(2) U.S. Customs imposes a tariff of approximately 6% on ordinary brand-new items, but anti-dumping duties are levied on brand-new textiles, bedroom furniture, and similar goods, typically around 30-45%. Of course, for personal luggage within a reasonable range for personal use, customs often will not impose tariffs on a modest amount of brand-new items.
(3) The U.S. railway system is highly developed and has numerous inland ports, but for goods destined for inland cities, most choose to clear customs in Los Angeles (U.S. West Coast) or New York (U.S. East Coast), because the clearance time at base ports is considerably shorter than at inland ports.
